Astoria Remembers . . .

Hundreds of Queens residents united for a candlelight vigil at Astoria’s McManus Memorial Park on September 8.
The vigil, which was organized by the United Community Civic Association (UCCA), was held in memory of all who lost their lives at the World Trade Center a decade ago.
Maureen and Al Santora, whose son Christopher, a New York City firefighter, perished on September 11, 2001, moved the crowd with their story of suffering and survival.
During the ceremony, the families of several victims surrounded a 9/11 memorial, which includes a metal beam from the World Trade Center, with flowered wreaths. — Michael Pantelidis
