Martin Luther has a middle school too

Martin Luther School, located on Maspeth Avenue in Maspeth, kicked off its 52nd school year. The one big difference students noticed when they returned to school was the addition of Middle School students. For the first time in its history, Martin Luther’s educational program will include students in grades 6, 7 and 8.
New restrooms on the third floor are nearly complete, Edline accounts have been set-up for parents and daily schedules have been arranged. A new white board and projector, part of a New York State Title II grant, have been installed in one third floor classroom, textbooks have been distributed and lesson plans are ready.
“We’re so excited to be welcoming the younger students this year,” said Middle School Principal Barbara Chin Sinn. “I have seen first-hand the quality of education offered by Martin Luther over the years, and I feel so blessed to be able to oversee the program for the Middle Schoolers. These students are going to receive a wonderful, Christ-centered education from a gifted staff.”
In addition to Chin Sinn, Glenn Schuman will be teaching Middle School science and social studies full-time. From the high school level, Elizabeth Teixeira (Mathematics), Steven Hicks (Theology), Susan Savage (Art), Katie Chan Chee (Music), Gary Fredericksen (Technology), Sara Cahill (Languages), Kathy Witto (Languages), Ann Boyle (Health) and James Regan (Physical Education) will also be working with the middle school students.
“We are so excited to be in a position to expand our program to include Middle School,” commented MLS Head of School Randal C. Gast. “We are thankful that parents are entrusting their child’s education to us, and in return, we will strive to provide the best experience possible. We are blessed to be able to offer our students a well-rounded program, including technology, athletics and the arts.”
