Sept. 7, 2011 Staff Report
This Friday, firefighters, politicians and members of the community are commemorating the loss of nine men from Woodside-based FDNY Rescue 4 who died in the World Trade Center attacks.
The commemoration will also pay tribute to six other men from Rescue 4 who died in the line of service, putting out other fires.
The event will take place outside of Rescue 4 at 64-18 Queens Blvd at 12 p.m. That block is going to be co-named Boulevard of Bravery.
Jimmy Van Bramer, who is holding the event, said “this is going to be a meaningful event where we recognize the bravery of these men. We are expecting a big turnout, which would be appropriate given what these men did for us all.”
The event will include the FDNY bagpipe band and children from P.S.11.
FDNY Rescue 4 has a large coverage area, responding to fires throughout Western Queens.
