Caught Stealing Items From Parked Auto
A Greenpoint man was ordered held on high bail after being caught by police as he allegedly attempted to steal items from inside a parked vehicle in Ridgewood last Friday night, Dec. 30, 2011, it was reported.
Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Carlos Lopez of Dupont Street.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the trouble began at around 7:50 p.m. at the intersection of Centre Street and Cypress Avenue.
Reportedly, an eyewitness contacted police after discovering Lopez inside of a 2008 Chevrolet parked at the location which had a broken driver’s side window and a damaged dashboard, steering wheel and ignition.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that several airbags inside the vehicle were also missing.

Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the scene. P.O. Sabrina Inga stopped Lopez at the location and questioned him.
During a search, police reportedly recovered a pair of sunglasses previously left inside the vehicle from the suspect’s pocket.
Lopez was taken into custody by police and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree attempted grand larceny, petit larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of a stolen property.
According to court records, he was arraigned on New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Pauline Mullings, who ordered him held on $30,000 bail.
The suspect is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 17.
