Deliveryman Gunned Down On Job
The alleged rooftop sniper who shot and killed a deliveryman from Elmhurst traveling through a Brooklyn neighborhood in September 2010 was arrested by police last week following a lengthy investigation, it was announced.
Law enforcement sources said that Anthony Martinez, 24, of West 11th Street in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn gunned down Jorge Martinez (no relation), 39, of 46th Avenue in Elmhurst in the vicinity of Avenue X and West 11th Street on the night of Sept. 3, 2010.

–SEE SNIPER ON PG. 28- brought back to New York last Thursday, Jan. 5, to face charges of seconddegree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police said that Jorge Martinez was behind the wheel of a bread van traveling along Avenue X at around 10:35 p.m. when the fatal shot struck him in the head.
During the investigation that followed, police determined that the bullet was fired from a nearby rooftop, piercing the top of the van and striking the victim in the head. Several vehicles parked nearby were also hit by similar gunfire, authorities noted.
Members of the 60th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Jorge Martinez was transported by paramedics to Coney Island Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The New York Daily News reported on Friday, Jan. 6, that it is believed Anthony Martinez was with several people on the roof of a building firing random shots with a 9mm handgun, including the bullet that took Jorge Martinez’s life. Witnesses reportedly came forward to police recently to identify the suspected gunman.
