Tried To Rape Woman In Ridgewood

Police are asking the public’s help in tracking down the unidentified man who robbed and attempted to rape a 25-year-old woman in Ridgewood on Sunday night, Feb. 19, it was reported.

Law enforcement sources described the perpetrator as an African- American male between 25 and 35 years of age, standing at 6′-tall and weighing about 200 lbs. with short black hair.

According to authorities, the attack occurred at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night in the vicinity of Cypress and St. Felix avenues, near the Ridgewood/Glendale border.

Reportedly, the 25-year-old woman was walking through the area when she was approached by the perpetrator, who knocked her to the ground and attempted to rape her.

After the woman began screaming for help, police said, the suspect grabbed her purse and fled from the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

Surveillance camera footage obtained by police in the course of their investigation showed the attacker leaving a local subway station less than a half-hour after the attack.

Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the scene. The woman suffered minor injuries including bumps and bruises, authorities noted.

Various police units canvassed the area for the suspect, but despite their efforts, no immediate arrests were made. As of press time Wednesday morning, the suspect remains at large.

The NYPD Queens Special Victims Squad is continuing their investigation into the case, police said.
