Two drivers were injured after a commercial vehicle and a car collided at a Maspeth railroad crossing last Wednesday morning, Mar. 14, Fire Department sources said. Reportedly, the crash occurred at around 7:45 a.m. at the crossing located off the corner of Rust Street and Maspeth Avenue. According to information obtained by sources, the car collided with a pickup truck, which then rolled over and landed upright on the tracks. Members of Squad Co. 288, Engine Co. 291, Ladder Co. 140, Rescue 4, Battalion 28, the 104th Precinct, NYPD Emergency Services Unit 10 and EMS units responded to the scene. Using the Hurst tool-commonly known as the “jaws of life”-first responders freed the truck driver, who had been pinned in the wreckage. Both he and the operator of the other vehicle involved were brought to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
