Forest Park Carousel gets new operator; will soon reopen

12w

After three dormant years, the Forest Park Carousel will spin once again.

The Parks Department has selected an operator — New York Carousel Entertainment — for the famed ride.

Though final terms of the licensing agreement have not yet been finalized, the company has a work permit to begin cleaning and conducting necessary maintenance work at the sight, according to a Parks Department spokesperson.

In February, the department announced that the carousel would be ready for the spring or summer.

New York Carousel Entertainment will also operate the carousel in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

The ride has not been operated since 2009 when its vendor, New York One, did not renew its contract.

The carousel — built in 1903 — features figures carved by master sculptor Daniel Muller.
