Five people were injured after three cars collided at a Richmond Hill intersection early on Sunday morning, May 6, Fire Department sources said. Reportedly, the crash occurred at around 1:30 a.m. at the corner of 101st Avenue and the Van Wyck Expressway service road. Members of Engine companies 298 and 303; Ladder companies 126 and 127; Squad Co. 270; Rescue 4; Battalion 50; the 102nd Precinct and numerous EMS units responded to the scene. Two Hurst tools-commonly known as the “jaws of life”-were used by first responders to free victims who were trapped in the wrecked vehicles. One of the victims was brought by paramedics to a local hospital in very serious condition; the four other victims were hospitalized with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, according to FDNY sources.
