Sunnyside Drugs, located at 39-51 Queens Blvd, has closed.
Yesterday, the owners tied a red banner on both sides of the store that read: “Pharmacy Closed: All Prescriptions transferred to Rite Aid Pharmacy at 45-02 43rd Ave.”
A middle-aged couple, who owned/managed the store, were out on the street yesterday as movers arrived to haul off furniture. They were also on the sidewalk later in the day giving away candy and other items to children.
The store’s lease had come to an end and the family chose not to renew. The owner said he was also able to sell part of his business to Rite Aid, in lieu of transferring the prescriptions.
This is the second closure of an independent pharmacy in the past month. The other was New Neighborhood Pharmacy, located at 45-12 Greenpoint Ave. It too transferred its customers’ prescriptions to a Rite Aid Pharmacy.
