Don’t laugh, funnyman Bill Maher has bought a stake in the New York Mets.
The “Real Time with Bill Maher” host told reporters that he invested in the team months ago at Sunday’s Mets 6-1 victory.
It is unsure if Maher bought a full share or is part of a partnership group.
After a deal with hedge fund manager David Einhorn fell through, the team decided to sell 12 shares for $20 million each.
Maher said in a video tweeted by the Mets, that he has been a fan of the team since its inception.
He said he was thrilled when the Mets won in 1969 and 1986 and expects “to be thrilled again very soon.”
“What can I say, ‘Ya gotta believe,’ and I do.”
