He’s Killed After Van, Bus Collide

Making a turn at a Woodside intersection proved to be a deadly maneuver for a 47-year-old man whose van collided with a bus early last Saturday, June 30, police reported.

His identity was not disclosed by law enforcement sources.

Reportedly, the crash took place just after 12:30 a.m. last Saturday at the corner of 39th Avenue and 64th Street.

According to information obtained by police, the 47-year-old victim was behind the wheel of a 2007 Ford Econoline Van as it attempted to turn from 39th Avenue eastbound to 64th Street northbound.

As he did so, authorities stated, his van collided with a Q53 bus traveling westbound on 39th Avenue. The bus was operated by a 46-year-old man and had three passengers on board, police noted.

Members of the 108th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The 47-year-old male victim was brought by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 46-year-old bus driver was also brought to Elmhurst Hospital and was listed in stable condition. Law enforcement sources noted that the three passengers refused medical assistance.

No criminality is suspected in the crash, which remains under investigation by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad, police said.
