Pol Wants Mandated Mta Hearings on Svc. Changes

Bus Routes Tweaked With No Input

In an effort to improve public transportation and community participation in Queens, Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder announced that he plans to introduce legislation that would require the MTA to hold public hearings on all service changes it makes regardless of how many people are affected by the change.

“It is important that the channels of communication are open between the MTA and the hardworking families of Queens who are impacted by these service changes,” Goldfeder said. “We must make our community as accessible as possible to live and work.”

Goldfeder introduced this legislation in response to the MTA refusing to hold a public hearing about the changes to the Q11, Q21 and Q53 bus lines in Howard Beach, Broad Channel and Rockaway. Currently, the MTA only holds public hearings on changes that either discontinue a route or reduce service coverage by more than 25 percent.

“The MTA should be holding hearings on service changes no matter how many people are affected by the change,” Goldfeder concluded. “It is important that Queens families can voice their concerns about the transportation in our area.”
