A Queens judge threw the book at a borough man last week who was involved in the fatal shooting of a Brooklyn cop just a day after he nearly killed a man during a Jamaica robbery, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Robert Ellis, 39, was convicted last month of robbing and attempting to murder Carl Field in Jamaica in July 2008, Brown said.

According to Brown, Field was standing on the corner of Sutphin Boulevard and 109th Drive just before 5 a.m. when Ellis, driving a Porsche Cayenne, pulled up and started firing shots from his .45-caliber handgun.

As Field ran, a bullet hit him in his left leg, shattering his femur and causing him to fall to the ground, the district attorney said.

It is alleged that Ellis’ accomplice, Dexter Bostic, then demanded that Field give him money and the two made off with more than $1,800 in cash, a chain and the keys to Field’s car, Brown said.

Bostic was awaiting trial, according to the DA.

The following day, Police Officers Russell Timoshenko and Herman Yan were following Ellis and two other individuals in Brooklyn who were driving in a black BMW SUV, the license plate of which had been reported stolen.

As the two officers approached the vehicle, shots rang out. Yan was severely injured and survived, but Timoshenko died five days later from his wounds. One of the guns used in the shooting was the one Field had fired the day before in Queens. He was convicted in Brooklyn Supreme Court in December 2008 of criminal possession of a weapon and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

When his day in Queens court came, Field was convicted of attempted murder, assault, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.

Queens Supreme Court Judge Gregory Lasak gave him the maximum sentence of 25 years to be served consecutively with his previous 15-year sentence.

Brown said the punishment fit the crime.

“The defendant stands convicted of participating in the cold-blooded shooting of an unarmed man who was then robbed of his possessions as he lay bleeding on the ground,” he said. “The lengthy prison sentence imposed today by the court is more than warranted to hold the defendant accountable for his actions and to protect society.”
