Mathnasium: Making Math Make Sense

Mathnasium, a learning center where kids go to catch up, keep up, or get ahead in math, is stepping up its game to help adolescents see the magic of math.

John and Julie Lee, owners of the newly-opened Mathnasium of Bayside, decided to share the success of their Great Neck center with the kids of Queens.

“The U.S. has lagged behind other major industrialized countries in math skills, and Mathnasium’s mission is to ‘make math make sense,’” said John. “That means we not only teach how to get the right answer, but why we get the right answer.”

While most math lessons are taught in a rather procedural manner, the Lees focus on educating kids on how to actually apply math to solve real problems.

“Mathnasium enables kids to focus on sharpening their math skills,” said Lee. “The students develop and maintain the mathematics knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in the information age.”

The Bayside location is just one of more than 300 Mathnasium centers in the entire U.S. offering math-only educational services to students from grades one to 12.

John and Julie Lee have helped “make math make sense” for many students in the Great Neck vicinity, and are expecting to do the same for Bayside.

“Our goal is to eliminate the confusion and intimidation that often accompanies the subject of math and replace it with understanding and passion,” said John.

“Mathnasium plans to provide the Bayside community with quality math tutoring services at affordable prices, while maintaining unsurpassed customer service,” said the Lees. “Our programs begin at about $28 per hour.”

Mathnasium is located at 43-17 Bell Boulevard. Hours of operation are Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. To learn more, call 718-747-MATH, or visit www.mathnasium.com/bayside.
