Halloween Time at Maple Grove

Spirits Come ‘Alive’ On Oct. 6

Classic music and Halloween magic are on tap on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens.

From 2 to 4 p.m., the cemetery, located at 83-15 Kew Gardens Rd., will hold its annual “Spirits Alive” event. A self-guided waling tour of the plot, highlighted by actors in period costumers reenacting and recounting the lives of some of its most well-known denizens.

A small donation is requested; children under 12 will be admitted for free. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period costumes.

Then from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Spirits Alive at Twilight” will feature live musical performances that pay tribute to some of the talents who were buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, including blues and jazz singer Jimmy (Mr. 5×5) Rushing, R&B singer LaVern Baker, gospel song writer George Stebbins, opera vocalist Danny “Demetrious” Meduri, Broadway composer V incent Youmans and stags and TV star Theresa Merritt.

This performance will be free to all.

In the event of inclement weather, both events will take place at The Center at Maple Grove Cemetery, at 127-15 Kew Gardens Rd.
