Queens residents who have ignored jury duty questionnaires sent mail will bysubpoenaed to appear at Queens Borough Hall in October to the reasons forbeexplain their failure to respond, Queens County Clerk Audrey Pheffer announced. The noncompliance hearings are set to take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Kew Gardens Jury Room located at 120-55 Queens Blvd. Past non-compliance hearings have resulted in more than 5,000 additional names being added to the jury pool, according to Pheffer. “Serving jury duty is something everyone must do. Answering the questionnaire is just the first step in obtaining qualified jurors for our jury pool,” she said. Residents who fail to answer the subpoena may be summoned to appear before a judge and subject to fines.
