Stray Vintage, the popular second hand shop located at 48-09 Skillman Ave., held a record fair on Sunday, drawing more than 100 attendees.
Many customers spent long periods of time riffling through boxes of records that were supplied by a number of vendors. Meanwhile, in the background, soul music was playing on the turntable—while beverages from Aubergine Cafe and Murphys Pub were being served.
This was the first record fair put on by Stray. “We’ve been to other fairs and figured we’d give it a try ourselves,” said Dan Glasser, who owns the store with his wife, Tara.
Dan and Tara reached out to their contacts—and then put out a Facebook blast. “Folks came from Manhattan and Brooklyn…it was overwhelming,” Dan said.
However, some participants were more local.
Liz Shofner, a 46th St. resident, came to browse through the boxes of records, which were located in front of the store. However, she ended up buying a large plate. “I just saw it and had to buy it.”
Tara described the event as a big success. We certainly got way more [customers] than a usual Sunday afternoon.”
“We’ll be doing this again: maybe in September,” Dan said.
