Say Pair Rode In Stolen Car With Heroin Stash
Twenty plastic bags containing heroin were recovered by police from two individuals who were arrested last Saturday afternoon, Mar. 2, after the car they were riding in-which was allegedly reported stolen days earlier-became involved in a multi-vehicle crash at a Glendale intersection, police said.
The pair were identified by law enforcement sources as Salvatore Giorlando, 43, of Central Avenue in Glendale and Angela Liscoe, 33, of 45th Street in Astoria.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the trouble began at around 3:08 p.m. last Saturday, when officers from the 104th Precinct spot- ted the pair inside a tan 2003 Nissan Altima traveling erratically in the vicinity of Myrtle Avenue and Decatur Street in Ridgewood.
Law enforcement sources said the vehicle was observed by officers crossing the double yellow line on Myrtle Avenue and moving into oncoming traffic. Reportedly, the officers followed the vehicle as it moved into Glendale.
Upon arriving at the intersection of 60th Lane and 75th Street, authorities said, the tan sedan failed to stop at a red light, then crashed into a vehicle at the corner as well as a light pole and several parked cars.
Officers from the 104th Precinct moved in and EMS units also responded. No serious injuries were reported.
Giorlando and Liscoe were stopped at the scene by officers. During their preliminary investigation, according to the criminal complaint, police determined that the sedan which they were riding in had been reported stolen on Feb. 28 from a location in Nassau County.
Officers reportedly searched the suspects and recovered 10 ziptop bags containing quantities of heroin from Giorlando’s pocket. Authorities noted that another 10 plastic bags with heroin were allegedly found in Liscoe’s purse.
Both individuals were taken into custody by P.O. Jason Ricottone of the 104th Precinct. Giorlando was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operator and several moving violations, while Liscoe was booked on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
According to court records, the two suspects were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court the following day before Judge Stephanie Zaro. Giorlando was reportedly held on $15,000 bail, while Liscoe was released on her own recognizance.
They are both scheduled to return to court on Mar. 15.
