Nine To Play In Mayor’s Cup Game In Manhattan

Nine student-athletes from local schools will be competing in the 2013 NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games, Apr. 5 at Baruch College Gymnasium on 55 Lexington Ave.

The game will markt he first time in 50 years that seniors from the Public School Athletics League (PSAL) and the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) will play each other in an oficially sanctioned all-star competition.

In the boys’ division, the PSAL is offering guard Markell French of John Adams High School, while the CHSAA will be sending forward Jordan Fuchs, guards Malik Harmon and Jon Severe of Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village and forward Marko Kozul and guard Chaz Walter of Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood.

Severe was also named captain of the CHSAA’s boys team.

In the girls’ division, the CHSAA will be sending center Taylor Butigian from Christ the King, guard Carla Marfe of St. John’s Preparatory School in Astoria and guard Amani Tatum of Archbishop Molloy.

There are no local girls from the PSAL playing in the all-star game.

The doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. with the girls game, which will be followed by the boy’s matchup at 7 p.m.

Tickets for both games can be purchased at the door for $5, and half the proceeds support the PSAL and CHSAA sports programs.

The all-star game and the Mayor’s Cup Series are organized by NYC & Company, the city’s marketing organization.

The series includes all-star games in 12 sports including cricket, table tennis and chess.
