Cab Driver Slain On Ridgewood, Bk. Street
No arrests have been made as of press time in the fatal shooting of a Long Island man who crashed his ride on a Ridgewood, Brooklyn street early on Monday morning, Apr. 1, law enforcement sources reported.
The victim was identified by police as 37-year-old Carlos Nunez, a livery cab driver from East Lincoln Avenue in Valley Stream.
Reportedly, Nunez was found behind the wheel of a 2004 Toyota Siena minivan which crashed into five parked cars on Decatur Street near Irving Avenue at around 12:47 a.m. Monday morning.
Based on information obtained by police, it was determined that Nunez was driving eastbound on Decatur Street when he lost consciousness and control of the minivan.
Members of the 83rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Nunez was pulled from the vehicle and rushed by paramedics to Brookdale University Hospital.
Originally believing that he had been injured as a result of the crash, police noted, doctors at Brookdale Hospital discovered that Nunez had sustained a gunshot wound to his face. Despite their efforts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead moments later.
Various police units canvassed the area surrounding the crash site for clues and possible suspects, but there were no immediate arrests made, law enforcement sources stated.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the 83rd Precinct Detective Squad, police said.
