Memorial Day Champions

Memorial Day Weekend Soccer tournaments provided the boys and girls of the Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) Soccer Club ample opportunity for victory, and they capitalized.

The Blau Weiss Gottschee Men’s U19 team won its weekend tournamnet in an overtime shootout.

BWG Blue ’03 were crowned the Champions of the Massapequa Lincoln Page Memorial Day Tournament for the U9 Division. The team played strong, and in their final game, the boys beat the PAL Inferno 7-3.

The U9 girls played in the tournament, as well, winning second place. On Saturday they bested the Manhattan Spirit 6-2 and Staten Island United 4-1. On Sunday they lost to East Meadow Blue 4-1 and tied East Meadow White team 3-3.

The ’01 Pre-Academy boys played a strong weekend in the top U12 bracket of the Pocono Cup, finishing undefeated but taking second place behind

Soccer Plus Academy. The boys won against Commack and Plainview Old Bethpage, and they tied Alumni Soccer Academy and Soccer Plus Academy.

BWG 2000 pre-academy team won their U13 Championship division at Lincoln Page Memorial Day Tournament in Massapequa. The team beat DUSC, Massapequa, New Rochelle, and in the final, they stomped Cold Spring Harbor, 5-1. All told, the boys scored 18 goals in four games.

The BWG Boys ’99 Blue Team competed in the Gold Division of the MAPS Cup over Memorial Day weekend. In the group stage, the boys won two games and lost one to finish second in the group and qualify for the third/fourth place game. The team lost that game 3-2 to finish fourth in the tournament.

BWG won the Men’s U19 Open at the Lincoln Page Memorial Day Tournament in Massapequa, Long Island. The team combined players from three Gottschee teams with players’ ages ranging from 15 to 18. The team stormed SW Futbol SFC Storm 4-0 and Hauppauge Big Blue 2-0. In the final, the boys played the host, Massapequa, with a result of 0-0 at the end of regular time. A 10-minute, suddendeath period failed to produce a winner and the game went to penalties, where Gottschee took the game, wining 5-4.
