News from the 112th Precinct Community Council

Special Crime Prevention Meeting Mon. In Rego Pk.

The 112th Precinct Community Council and the 112th Precinct announced that it will be holding a special public safety meeting this Monday night, May 6, in Rego Park to educate the members of the community.

The meeting will be held Monday night at 7 p.m. at P.S. 174, located at 65-10 Dieterle Cres. in Rego Park. We encourage everyone to attend.

Our residents will learn how to better protect their own residences and hear how to describe suspicious activity to police. Residents will also have an opportunity to have their particular concerns addressed by Capt. Thomas Conforti, 112th Precinct commanding officer, and other members of the NYPD.

While the precinct recently arrested a burglar allegedly responsible for some of the recent break-ins around the 112th Precinct, we believe that this meeting is still important for our residents to attend, as there are other perpetrators still in the neighborhood.

Additionally, the precinct is to be commended for arresting a violent criminal who allegedly attacked women in the street.

The success of our precinct in making these arrests, unfortunately, does not eliminate the need for our residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity in our neighborhood.

Anyone who is a victim of a crime should report it immediately to 911 and to 112th Precinct officers.

The precinct council, with the assistance of Conforti, is preparing a brochure for everyone to take home with safety information for our community.

Editor’s note: Heidi Harrison Chain is president of the 112th Precinct Community Council.
