In regards to the July 19-25 article “Vallone bill to reverse Ed Koch bridge naming,” I applaud City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr.’s (D-Astoria) sensibilities in bringing this up.
It is not only a question of the honoree being alive or dead but a question of convenience and clarity to have the bridges’ original names. They made sense.
With all of New York’s residents and visitors, why have confusing names on major arteries? Even though Robert F. Kennedy is gone, the renaming of the apt Tri-Borough Bridge is a disaster. I believe that idea came from Elliot Spitzer.
Vallone is correct in this matter of moving Koch’s name to a building that is not going anywhere.
