Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District will be presenting its final Sunnyside Summer Strolls street event on Saturday, August 10, featuring a female mariachi band, a local rock group– and plenty of art and giveaways.
The event will include films that were shown as part of the Queens World Film Festival, performances by students from the Sunnyside Ballet Studio, a performance by local rock band The Occident and a mariachi performance by Flor de Toloache, NYC’s only all-female mariachi band.
Sunnyside Shines will be rolling out a sod lawn to transform 46th Street into a temporary park for the day. Rachel Thieme, the executive director of the BID, said “Picnics are welcome.”
Schedule:
• 12pm-7pm: Displays of Sunnyside map entries by LaGuardia Community College students
• 1pm – 5pm: Collaborative collage-making project with Queens Museum of Art
• 1pm-3pm: Tree care training workshops with Greening Western Queens
• 1:30pm – 2pm: Free yoga in the street! Class by Sunnyside Yoga (to sign up, please email mmgarvey@yahoo.com or just show up in comfortable clothes – mats will be provided)
• 2pm-6pm: Film displays from the Queens World Film Festival
• 3:30pm-4:30pm: Performance from local rockers The Occident (acoustic guitars + vocals)
• 5pm – 6pm: Mariachi performance by Flor de Toloache, NYC’s only all-female mariachi band!
• 6pm – 6:30pm: Dance performance from the Sunnyside Ballet Studio
