Sunnyside is going to be all about jazz Saturday.
Sunnyside Shines is hosting the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival under the 46th Street arch tomorrow (August 3). The event, typically Sunnyside Shines’ biggest of the year, kicks off at 12:30 pm.
The jazz festival will feature crowd favorites such as Svetlana and the Delancey Five, The Sunnyside Drum Corps and the big-band sound of Paul Maringelli and the Sunnyside Wolverines.
Marringelli and the Sunnyside Wolverines, who are scheduled to play at 5:30 pm, have performed a tribute concert to Beiderbeck, a 1920s jazz icon who lived in Sunnyside, every summer since August 2001.
The Wolverines consist of a collection of professional musicians who get together just for the tribute.
The event will take on a distinct 1920s flavor. It will feature a 1920’s costume contest, a photo booth, Lindy Hop lessons, and vintage jazz from DJs MAC & Mike.
Sunnyside Shines is also renting a dance floor for the event.
