A new pizzeria is opening on 49th Street at the same location where Pizza Dealz operated.
The pizzeria, to be called “Uncle Jimmy’s Pizza,” will be located at 41-10 49th Street and is expected to open mid way through next week.
The owner is Jimmy Canarozzi, a life-long Sunnyside Gardens resident, who bought Pizza Dealz (which included the ovens, a 10-year lease, etc.) after it was listed for sale in September.
Canarozzi said he is putting together a fairly basic menu– with all items sold at reasonable prices. “It’s not going to be 99 cents [a slice], but we are not going to bang anyone over the head either.”
“Opening a pizzeria is something I have always wanted to do,” Canarozzi said. Opening one in Sunnyside, he said, is particularly special since “I’m a neighborhood kind of a guy.”
Canarozzi has worked in the building industry for most of his life and plans to make the leap into the pizza business full time. He has brought on pizza maker.
The pizzeria is approx 500 square feet, with room for about 6 stools customers.
A pizzeria was established in this location at the beginning of 2012, when it was called 99c Fresh Pizza. The name was soon changed to Pizza Dealz.
