The final of Sunnyside’s version of American Idol takes place tonight.
Twenty one contests will be vying for the top prize of $500, with the runner up to receive $100.
The event, held by Bliss Street Station (47-02 Greenpoint Ave.), will not be judged by Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. – but three local judges whose decision will, in part, be influenced by the crowd’s reaction.
Branded “Bliss Street Idol”, this will be the bar’s sixth annual Karaoke final, which takes place at 9:00 pm tonight. The contestants are free to sing a song of their choice.
The bar has had qualifying rounds in the past month.
The pub came up with the concept a number of years ago. “We had been doing karaoke here for years and we thought it would be a lot of fun turning it into a competition,” said Liz Taylor, who manages Bliss Street Station.
