Sunnyside will be celebrating the holiday spirit for the second time in a week when the lights along Skillman Avenue get switched on next Tuesday.

The lights, which go down Skillman Avenue (between 52nd and 43rd Streets), have been part of this neighborhood’s holiday season for the past four years.

The official ceremony is scheduled to take place on the corner of Skillman Avenue and 50th Street at 6 pm. Children from PS 11 and PS 150 will be singing Christmas Carols—and Santa—along with elected officials—will be making an appearance.

The event is being hosted by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and the Skillman Project, an organization that promotes restaurants and cafés along that avenue.

Earlier this week, Sunnyside Shines and the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce held a holiday lighting ceremony under the Sunnyside arch. The event began with carolers from the LaGuardia Community College vocal program and was followed by performance from the Sunnyside Drum Corps.
