The shuttered playground located on the corner of 5th Street and 48th Avenue is likely to be revamped and then reopened by the end of 2015.
Karen Phillips, the director of the New York City region of New York State Parks , said that $150,000 has been budgeted to repair the playground and it is expected to be approved shortly.
The playground–designed for small children–has been closed in recent years after it was discovered that it was unsafe.
The playground, however, is not going to upgraded overnight. It has to be designed, put out for bid and constructed. That process can take about 18 months.
Phillips said she plans on refurbishing the basketball courts as well– although that is for a later date.
