Students, educators and elected officials celebrated the opening of a new computer lab at the Academy Of American Studies in Long Island City. The 800- student school purchased lab equipment, as well as smart boards for its classrooms, thanks to a $335,000 allocation from City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer (holding ribbon). Joining Van Bramer at the ribbon cutting were Elizabeth De Leon, president of the school’s student government; Alejandro Laserna, senior class officer; Nadia Semmar, senior representative for the school’s student government; and Principal William Bassell.
