Community Board 11 voted in Christine Haider as its new chairwoman during a monthly meeting Monday night to replace longtime leader Jerry Iannece, who will be forced out by term limits at the end of this month.

Haider, who represents Auburndale on the community board, has served as first vice chairwoman for the past five years as well as heading CB 11’s Zoning Committee. Her term as the board’s new chairwoman will start April 1.

Laura James, who has been third vice chairwoman, will replace Haider as first vice chairwoman, and Ocelia Claro will serve as second vice chairwoman at the start of the new term to replace Dennis Novick, who announced he is moving out of the borough and leaving the board.

Eileen Miller, of Bayside, was elected to serve as the board’s third vice chairwoman.

Iannece, who has served as chairman for 10 out of his last 12 years on the board, received an abundance of praise and gratitude from his colleagues as they prepared to elect a replacement. He thanked the board and the public for allowing him to serve and said it has been “sheer pleasure” to hold the position and be able to help the community he loves.

“I know at times we’ve locked horns and haven’t always been able to accomplish what we wanted to, but our hearts were in the right place,” he said. “It’s been an honor and a privilege.”
