Richmond Hill man killed in hit-and-run on Northern Boulevard: NYPD

By Bill Parry

Authorities were looking for a dark-colored vehicle that fatally struck a Richmond Hill man Friday night in Long Island City and drove off, the NYPD said.

Police said they were called to Northern Boulevard and 40th Road at around 10:30 p.m. and found 64-year-old Kumar Ragunath, who was unconscious and unresponsive with severe head trauma and a broken leg.

Ragunath was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition, according to cops.

On Saturday, authorities said he had died.

Police believe a black or dark-colored Chevy Blazer was driving westbound in the right lane of Northern Boulevard when the vehicle struck Ragunath and continued to head west on Northern Boulevard.

Authorities said Ragunath had been attempting to cross Northern Boulevard from the south to the north side and had not been walking in a marked crosswalk at the time he was hit.

No one has been arrested and the accident was being investigated by the NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigative Squad, police said.
