Sunnyside Shines has announced that it will be holding its fourth Taste of Sunnyside this spring, in what is expected to be its most ambitious food festival to date.

This year’s event—to be held Tuesday, May 20–will take place underneath the No. 7 train trestle between 45th and 46th Streets. The space will be tented and lit, with a stage set up.

The BID started sending out notices today to restaurants throughout the greater Sunnyside district inviting them to participate. It is also seeking to attract food market providers, such as the Butcher Block or Parrot Coffee, to showcase their products.

The BID, which is working in partnership with Edible Queens, aims to draw at least 30 restaurants or food market providers. In the past, the BID has been able recruit plenty of restaurants, representing a multitude of nations.

“The goal is to is to promote Sunnyside as a great dining destination and to help people discover a new restaurant or to check out a food market for the first time,” said Rachel Thieme, executive director of Sunnyside Shines.

This year’s event will go from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm and will be the BID’s first outdoor Taste. The evening will start with a VIP hour from 5:30pm to 6:30 pm, with the main event taking place from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Tickets have not yet gone on sale and the BID has not disclosed what the price will be.

The Taste of Sunnyside has historically been a successful event. It has always been well attended and there has always been a good turnout of neighborhood restaurants.
