The pedestrian walkway of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be shut down to pedestrians and cyclists in the daytime starting Monday.
The 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. shutdown will permit resurfacing of the narrow, mile-long span.
During the daytime shutdown, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will provide shuttle buses, each of which can carry eight passengers and four bicycles across the bridge at 15-minute intervals while the narrow walkway is closed. The walkway will reopen daily at 5 p.m.
Pedestrians can get shuttle buses at Rockaway Point Boulevard and Beach 269th Street in Queens and on the west side of Flatbush Avenue, about 300 feet south of the intersection of Aviation Road in Brooklyn. Orange signs will be place.
The project is heavily dependent on dry, non-humid weather to ensure the overlay adheres to the exposed steel of the walkway. The project is expected to be finished by the end of May.
Every effort will made to avoid weekend work, officials said.
