Drivers Held Up On Border In R’wood
Within a half-hour, bandits robbed two cab drivers at gunpoint on the Brooklyn/Queens border in Ridgewood last Saturday morning, Apr. 5, police reported.
The two perpetrators-described as black males-remain at large as of press time, law enforcement sources said .
Reportedly, the trouble began at about 11:08 a.m. Saturday morning, when a cab driver picked up the two suspects at the corner of Wyckoff Avenue and Covert Street.
Police said one of the suspects wore a dark-colored top and cap, while his cohort was seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.
As the cabbie drove, authorities stated, one of the bandits displayed a firearm and demanded cash. The driver reportedly stopped his vehicle, exited and fled from the scene.
Once the driver ditched his cab, police noted, the suspects removed $70 in cash left behind near the driver’s seat.
Law enforcement sources said the second heist occurred at about 11:30 a.m., when a second cab driver picked up the suspect in the hoodedsweatshirt on Weirfield Street between Irving and Wyckoff avenues.
Seconds later, police said, the crook displayed a black firearm and demanded cash. Reportedly, the driver provided $250 in cash to the suspect, who took the money and fled on foot.
Both of the robberies were reported to the 83rd Precinct; neither driver was injured.
