Man Stabs Girlfriend, Then Himself

Found bleeding in an alley from a self-inflicted wound, an Elmhurst man was arrested last Thursday morning, Aug. 14, for allegedly knifing his girlfriend hours earlier, law enforcement sources said.

Police identified the perpetrator as 37-year-old Jindeng Shi of 82nd Street. The 35-year-old female victim was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

According to authorities, the violence broke out at about 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday night, Aug. 13, in front of a residence on 53rd Avenue near 90th Street.

Reportedly, Shi confronted the victim, his girlfriend, and the two became embroiled in a verbal dispute. NYPD sources stated the victim previously filed a restraining order barring Shi from contacting her in any way.

The words turned physical, police said, when Shi allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times about the body. He then reportedly jumped into her nearby vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.

Moments later, law enforcement sources said, Shi crashed the vehicles into two other cars, and fled on foot.

Officers from the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident. The victim was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening.

During a search of the surrounding area, authorities stated, 110th Precinct officers located Shi after midnight Thursday in an alley located in the vicinity of Justice and 53rd avenues. Reportedly, he had a self-inflicted laceration to his throat.

Shi was brought to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were also not life-threatening. Police later charged him with seconddegree attempted murder, assault with intent to cause physical injury, assault with a weapon, unlawful imprisonment, criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon.
