Book Sunnyside Man For Grand Central Attack
Police cuffed a Sunnyside man who allegedly stabbed three men during a dispute at Grand Central Station in Manhattan early last Saturday morning, Aug. 16, authorities reported.
Law enforcement sources identified the perpetrator as Ivan DeLeon, 38, of 41st Street. The three stabbing victims are expected to recover from their injuries, authorities noted.
Reportedly, the violence broke out at about 12:05 a.m. Saturday on the Bronx-bound 6 train platform at the Grand Central-42nd Street stop.
According to information provided by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, DeLeon allegedly bumped into a 29-year-old man’s son while waiting on the platform to board an arriving train.
Prosecutors said DeLeon allegedly yelled a profanity at the man and threatened to kill his kids if he did not get out of the way. This reportedly led to a verbal dispute between the suspect and the passenger.
The beef turned physical, law enforcement sources stated, when DeLeon allegedly threw a punch at the man, leading to a physical struggle.
DeLeon reportedly pulled out a pocket knife and slashed the 29-yearold man in the arm.
Authorities said DeLeon then turned to the victim’s 26-year-old brother and stuck the knife in his chest, then stabbed a third man-the victim’s 27-year-old male friend-in the stomach.
Officers from NYPD Transit Division District 4 and EMS units responded to the incident. The three victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment of injuries that were not lifethreatening; the child was not injured.
DeLeon was picked up a short time later and charged with two counts of first-degree assault, firstdegree attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, DeLeon was ordered held on $200,000 bond or $150,000 cash bail following arraignment in New York County Criminal Court.
