Park Walk to Fight Cancer

Will “Light The Night” Sept. 20

Thousands hope to step up efforts to fight cancer during the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’sLight the Night” fund-raising walk in Forest Park next Saturday night, Sept. 20.

The event begins with registration and opening ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. at Forest Park’s Victory Field, located off the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard.

All are invited to join teams of family members, friends, coworkers and/or cancer survivors for the two-mile walk to raise funds for research and treatment of blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

More than a million Americans, including those currently in remission, currently live with blood cancer, according to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Participants will make their way through the park with candles or flashlights lighting the way. They will also carry balloons colored red for supporters, white for cancer survivors or gold in memory of someone who lost their fight with the disease.

Organizers hope to raise $225,000 at the Forest Park walk, and more than one-third of that goal has already been pledged, it was noted.
