Ridgewood Vendor Belted Over Belts

Say Midville Man Assaulted Him In Robbery Bid

A Middle Village man with a lengthy rap sheet found himself in handcuffs again last Friday, Sept. 19, for allegedly assaulting and attempting to rob a Ridgewood street vendor, authorities reported.

Police identified the suspect as David Negron, 21, of 62nd Road. According to court records, there are 18 different pending criminal cases against him, many of which involve charges of graffiti vandalism.

Law enforcement sources said the latest incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. last Friday outside the Optimo II bodega located at 66-61 Fresh Pond Rd. at Madison Street.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Negron allegedly approached a sidewalk vendor set up in front of the establishment and picked up several belts on display.

When Negron began to walk away, police said, the vendor confronted him for non-payment. Reportedly, Negron then punched the vendor in the head repeatedly.

Prosecutors said the victim grabbed hold of the belts, but Negron then pushed him to the ground and ran from the scene.

Officers from the 104th Precinct quickly responded to the location and caught Negron nearby. He was taken into custody by P.O. Thomas Weil of the 104th Precinct on charges of second-degree attempted robbery and attempted petit larceny.

Reportedly, the street vendor was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

According to court records, Negron was arraigned the following day, Saturday, Sept. 20, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Ernest Hart, who ordered him held on $15,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 7.
