Faithful pet owners brought their dogs, cats and other creatures to local churches last Saturday, Oct. 4, for Blessings of the Pets services. The blessings coincided with the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, regarded by Christians as the patron saint of animals. The left photo shows the ceremony at Emanuel Church of Christ in Woodhaven, with Pastor Toni Walrond administering the blessings. Pictured at right are congregants at the Church of the Resurrection in Richmond Hill/Kew Gardens along with Pastor Gilberto Sands.
