A 19-year-old man was shot during a Jamaica home invasion on Monday after he attacked a police officer, authorities said.

When cops arrived at the scene of the burglary on 142nd Street near 109th Avenue about 1:10 p.m., they heard a woman screaming for help from the home’s second floor, police said. Inside, they confronted the burglar, Leighton Friday, in the living room.

Friday then struck one of the officers in the head with a metal object, possibly a crowbar or a hammer, according to published reports. The injured officer and a second officer fired their guns at him, striking Friday in the wrist and thigh.

The officer was transported to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

Friday was also taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, authorities said. He has been charged with two counts of burglary, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
