City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and City Council Member Eric Ulrich visited the Borden Avenue Veterans Residence in Long Island City on Friday, Nov. 21 to donate over 1,000 pounds of donated food collected during the City Council’s Veteran’s Food Drive in partnership with the New York City Food Bank. Across the country, including here in the city, service members and their families increasingly lack access to affordable, nutritious food. As a result, many have turned to food pantries and soup kitchens. Furthermore, financial constraints have forced veteran families to sacrifice food quality. “This drive will help ensure that kitchens and pantries around the city are equipped to meet demand from veterans and their families going into the holiday season,” said Ulrich.
