Phony Sprint employee steals copper wire from Astoria cellphone tower, NYPD says

Police are searching for a suspect who they say impersonated a Sprint worker to gain access to a rooftop and steal copper wire.

The suspect deceived residents to gain entry to an apartment building located at 31-06 42nd Street. The alleged perpetrator then made his way up to the roof where he removed copper grounding wire to a Sprint cell phone tower, according to the NYPD.  The incident took place on March 13 at around 10:30 am

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 40-years-old, approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt and black vest.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police released video of the suspect and are asking anyone with any information to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
