Joseph John D’Alessandro Sr., who operated D’Alessandro’s Food Market in Flushing with his four brothers, died May 21 at the age of 66 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
D’Alessandro’s and later D’Alessandro’s Corner Grill in Bayside, are part of a 47-year family-owned business started by his late father, Antonio D’Alessandro.
Joseph D’Alessandro is survived by seven of his siblings and his mother, Filomena D’Alessandro, as well as by his son, Joseph D’Alessandro Jr., his daughter, Linda D’Alessandro and his wife, Mindy Damianou.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2012, but it went into remission following six months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. But it was later discovered that the cancer had metastasized and spread to his lungs and other organs, at which point, he could no longer tolerate another round of treatment, according to Linda D’Alessandro.
Joseph D’Alessandro lost his life to the same disease as his brother, John D’Alessandro, in 2009 and his sister, Josephine, in 2014.
The family did not disclose any funeral information.
