The bland pedestrian walkway that goes over the Thomson Bridge will soon be covered with a bright-colored mural.
The mural, which will go up late July, is part of the DOT’s Art Program that aims to take heavily trafficked space and to enhance it with temporary artwork.
The DOT said that the bridge has been a priority site since last fall following community requests for its beautification.
The Thomson Bridge mural is collaboration between the Long Island City Partnerhsip and artist Mark Salinas, a graphic designer who has completed public art projects in Times Square and Sunnyside.
The partnership and Salinas applied jointly to be part of the program last fall.
The bridge is used by thousands of pedestrians, with many students crossing it each day.
The partnership and Salinas will be responsible for maintaining the artwork.
The mural will be up for 11 months.
