Work Starts At C-Town Site

June 3, 2015 By Jackie Strawbridge

Construction appears to be in gear at Astoria’s C-Town supermarket, where 64 apartments are set to rise.

Last week, the Department of Buildings approved plans to put four floors of apartments on top of the existing first floor, currently occupied by the supermarket.

Building plans call for 32 underground parking spaces, bike storage, recreation space and terraces.

Neither property owners nor C-Town management could be reached for comment. It is unclear whether and for how long the supermarket would close during construction.

Construction equipment is fenced into the parking lot taking up about five spaces.

Meanwhile, the King of Falafel food truck, which sits on Broadway next to the C-Town parking lot, posted on its Facebook on Tuesday that it will remain open during construction.
