The police have arrested a man who allegedly robbed an Astoria bank on Monday while in a wheelchair.
Kelvin Dennison, 23, of Queens, was arrested Thursday on robbery charges after the police received several tips after CrimeStoppers posted a video of the suspect shortly after the incident.
Dennison allegedly entered Santander Bank, located at 37-10 Broadway, on Monday and gave the teller a note demanding cash. He received approximately $1,200 and fled in his wheelchair.
He was arraigned Thursday morning on third-degree robbery charges and is being held on $15,000 bail.
People in the neighborhood were shocked by the incident.
“It’s a little surprising,” one area resident told WABC News. “I thought it was a joke at first until when I overheard all the police officers coming in, I realized it was something serious.”
