A new Japanese restaurant located at 46-44 Vernon Blvd opened Monday.
The restaurant, called Murasaki, is pitching itself as a sushi restaurant where it will offer sashimi, rolls and, of course, sushi.
The owner Tohei Nishi said that he decided to open on Vernon Blvd since there weren’t any sushi restaurants on the main strip.
“We went to Long Island, Manhattan and Astoria to find a place to open and found this to be a good spot,” he said, given the lack of sushi restaurants on the boulevard.
Nishi, who owned The Palace of Japan in Riverdale, said he has been making sushi for more than 30 years. He said that he sold the Bronx restaurant to a friend about a year ago after his rent went up.
Nishi, who was born in Japan and now lives in Forest Hills, said: “I want to make this restaurant simple, with Japanese food only.”
The restaurant can seat nearly 50 people, including five seats at the sushi bar. The restaurant has applied for its wine, beer and saki license and is just waiting for State Liquor Authority’s approval.
