A man got into a dispute with a worker at a Steinway Street furniture store, pulled out a knife and then took off with $2,000 cash, according to police.
The alleged perpetrator entered the American Design Furniture store, located at 32-94 Steinway Street, and demanded that he be refunded for a sofa that he claimed he had bought but had not been delivered.
He got into an argument with an employee at around 5:45 pm on Thursday July 23 and then pulled out a knife and placed it against the worker while demanding his money, according to police.
The 24-year-old victim handed him $500 in cash—the amount involved in the dispute. However, the suspect then went on to assault the victim and robbed him of another $1,500 in cash.
The suspect fled the store and drove off in an unknown direction. The victim was taken to Astoria General for minor injuries and was released, according to police.
The suspect is described as male Hispanic, approximately 28-30 years-of-age, 6’0″ tall, 190lbs, short black hair with freckles and wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans.
